Nancy J. Vavra has over thirty years of legal experience. She has worked in the area of family law since 1991 and has litigated a countless number of issues related to divorce, separation, custody, and support.

Nancy is a highly skilled litigator and mediator. She is specifically trained and certified in mediation, and has successfully mediated innumerable family court issues existing between parties represented by attorneys and for those who have sought to resolve such matters without legal representation.  Courts are essential to our justice system, and mediation saves time and money as an alternative for the resolution of disputes.  It offers unique solutions specifically tailored to a family’s needs and allows family members to control the outcome without invoking unnecessary hostilities.

Regardless of how “simple” your divorce is, there are numerous “hoops” to jump through from the beginning of the process to its completion.  Competent legal advice can insure that you do not make errors in judgment with lasting consequences along the way.

How to Choose a Mediator or Litigator

Find one trained and experienced in family law matters.

Ask friends and other trusted persons for referrals.

Consider the professional's years of experience, costs and fees.

Consider the professional's ability to schedule meetings in a timely manner.

Work with a professional who provides you with an education and confidence!

In choosing your attorney, do evaluate your ability to “connect” with him/her.  As your legal counselor, Nancy does communicate directly.  She will tell you what she thinks, whether or not it is what you want to hear.  Your time and money are treated responsibly.  Nancy understands and appreciates that your financial resources are limited and hard earned.

Do get recommendations for a lawyer from your friends, neighbors, relatives and marriage counselors, mediators and therapists. Often those you work with or meet in the grocery store will have experience with legal professionals.  Keep in mind however, that you will be working with your lawyer for a significant period of time during a difficult time in your life.

Remember, your lawyer works for you!

Nancy will provide you with much information and direction. She does however respect that ultimately the decisions you make and the consequences which follow affect your life and the lives of your family members. Ultimately YOU are responsible for the conduct of your divorce and its outcome.

Thinking of changing lawyers?

Ask yourself if you feel supported by your lawyer.

Do you think that you can trust and confide in him or her?

Your honesty with your lawyer will serve to protect you.
